Indoor & Outdoor Soccer Rules

6U, 8U, and 10U Indoor Soccer Rules

The White City Futbol Club has adopted the Regina West Zone Indoor Soccer Association rules for the 2023 - 2024 indoor season. 

 RWZISA Rules for 6U, 10U, and 12U 

A brief summary of the general rules follows below.

General Rules

• arrive at least 15 minutes early before your game to warm up and start on time

• notify your coach ahead of time if you will be absent for a game

• all players are required to wear shin pads (covered by socks) and jerseys tucked in

• players remove all jewelry and piercings (medical alerts excluded, but taped)

• no black marking runners allowed in gyms (for indoor soccer)

• all players/parents must be committed to travel to play with their team when games are scheduled outside of White City

• parents, please volunteer to help your coach (eg. gather equipment at the end of the game, carry heavy equipment to the car, supervise young kids waiting on bench/sideline, etc.) We're all volunteers and it makes everyone's job easier if we all pitch in.

Our recreation association adheres to a  ZERO TOLERANCE policy on dangerous play, serious foul and violent conduct (including abusive and foul language).  It is critical that respect for the rules of the game and the spirit of sportsmanship is promoted and demonstrated at ALL times by players, coaches, parents and spectators.  To cool things down, it is important to address misconduct before it gets out of hand.

General Indoor Rules

6U

• 5 players including the goalkeeper

• Ball will be size 3

• parent/coach ref (guide) the game

• walls are live (but roof and baskets are dead)

• rebound area around net is live

• no players other than the goalkeeper is allowed within the crease around the net

• no throw ins  (must kick instead)

• no Corner Kick due to smaller playing surface 

• no off-side

8U and 10U

General Outdoor Rules

Highlights

• common areas of confusion are:

  • Keepers

    • for U6-U10 games, 6 players plus a keeper for 7 total.

  • Creases

    • 6-10U play with a crease

  • Off-side

    • 6-10U play NO off-side

  • Subs

    • 6-10U sub unlimited during stoppage of play

  • Throw-in

    • keep BOTH feet on the ground and on or behind the touch-line

    • use both hands to deliver the ball from behind and over his/her

    • ball must be thrown in the same direction the head and feet are pointing

• Only those players registered on the team rosters (submitted at the beginning of the season) are the only players allowed to play during the season/tournament.  Coaches can pull players up from a younger team (eg. 12U sub for 14U team), but are not allowed to use players who are playing up (may be 14, but are playing up on 16U team)

• Assistant coach (or parent) can help the coach by having the kids on the sideline ready for a quick substitution.  Have the kids standing at the centre line ready to go in.

• Assistant coach (or parent) can help the players change in the keeper (help the kids get the gloves off and on as well as the piney).  Show the new goalie where to stand and how to stand in the goal.

• Parents can help out by keeping the younger kids on the sidelines ready to play.

• Parents, please volunteer to help your coach (eg. gather equipment at the end of the game, carry heavy equipment to the car, supervise young kids waiting on bench/sideline, etc.)  We're all volunteers and it makes everyone's job easier if we all pitch in.

Red Cards

• At times, there are incidents in the league concerning unsportsmanlike and abusive behaviour of some players and coaches.  Please review the following information and ensure you are aware of the process to be followed for a player who receives a red card. If you have any concerns or issues, please contact whitecityfutebol@gmail.com.

• Referees MUST report all red and yellow card infractions to the Ref Coordinator for their community immediately following the game.  This information is then passed on to the soccer club Board.

• Coaches MUST also report details of all red and yellow card infractions to the Rec Director for their community immediately following the game.

Reminders

• Refs (and Linespeople) are in charge of the game at all times

• Only Coaches, Assistants and Players on the roster are allowed to be on the field of play/bench and will be enforced by the Officials.  Teams are responsible for the conduct of their specters.  All spectators must reside on the opposite sideline as the players bench to ensure there is no interference of play.

• Refs meet with both coaches before the game to review expectations.

• Abusive and foul language will be given an automatic RED CARD (no yellow card/warnings)

• Uttering racial slurs or similar discriminatory remarks or gestures (such as sexual remarks or intimidation) may result in indefinite suspensions.

• Linespeople are reminded that they may call misconduct and fouls, particularly where it occurs outside of the Referee’s line of vision or hearing.

If a player is given a red card

• The player must leave the field immediately, before the game can resume (or additional game suspensions will result for delay of game).

• The player must physically be away from the field and unable to interact physically, visually or verbally with players or spectators on either team.

• The player’s team plays short-handed for the remainder of the game.

• A player who receives a red card must ALSO sit out the next scheduled/played game and must NOT attend that game, even as a spectator.  Rained out or games not played do not count towards serving a suspended game(s).  (Note: the player’s team is not penalized for this game – they can play full strength, provided they are not penalized for some other reason.)

• In summary, a player who receives a ‘one-game suspension’ loses the privilege of playing the remainder of the game in which the infraction occurred AND the entire next game.
